Holiday Break

We were supposed to hit the road for Oroville this morning, but now tomorrow morning looks a lot more likely.  Our daughter, son-in-law and grandkids will just have to wait 24 more hours for our invasion.  As things often turn out before a road trip, we were hurrying and trying to stuff ten pounds of things to do into a five pound bag.  Friday was our original departure day anyway and will be a lot less hectic.  By the time the car is loaded sometime this evening, it will have more packages than Santa’s sleigh, which should make the grandkids happy.

By waiting, we should be able to finish up everything that needs to be done and get an early start on the 565 mile journey that will finally land us at our destination after nearly nine hours of driving.  The worst part of this is that we have been up Interstate 5 so many times that there is nothing new to see.  It is a great route for reading a book if you are the passenger, but the driver better pay attention to the other vehicles on the road.

In other news, Gus continues to heal from his brush with a flesh-eating bacteria in his right rear paw and Jack continues to grow taller.  At nine months, the pup is already taller than Gus or Rainy who makes it clear he is still the boss when the youngsters are around.

Since this will be my last post of 2013, thanks for hanging around this past year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
